Our laboratory has a long history in the development of functional molecules for selective molecular recognition. In particular, a variety of ligands for selective ion recognition (ionophores) has been developed. Some of those ionophores are now commercially available and are being used in ion selective electrodes applied to clinical blood electrolyte analyzers. Some of the targeted ions are lithium, sodium, magnesium and ammonium, among others.
More recently, we have developed an organic ligand for the selective extraction of Ag+ ions from an organic phase into an aqueous phase.
